External Exams
Credit awarded for external exams at Evergreen Valley College is limited to Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams. These credits may be applied toward general education and elective requirements for an Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), and/or Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) at Evergreen Valley College.
The charts provided in this section list how Evergreen Valley College grants credit for AP, IB, and CLEP exam scores. Credit towards general education requirements is applied based on California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) approvals, which is used by students who plan to transfer to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) campus.
While this information reflects Evergreen Valley College’s policies, the acceptance and use of external exam credit may vary at other institutions. The use of exam scores for admission eligibility, elective units, or major preparation is determined by each individual transfer campus.
To learn more about how California’s public university systems evaluate external exams, visit the following websites:
- California State University (CSU) Exam Credit Policies: CSU AP, IB, and CLEP Credit
- University of California (UC) Exam Credit Policies: UC AP and IB Credit
For campus-specific policies, refer to the college catalog of your intended transfer institution. Since policies regarding credit can differ even within the same university system, students are strongly encouraged to meet with a counselor to review how their exam scores may apply to their educational and transfer goals.
Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
Students with scores of 3, 4, or 5 on Advanced Placement (AP) examinations may earn credit toward Evergreen Valley College (EVC) General Education (GE) for AA, AS, ADT, and Cal-GETC requirements in accordance with the chart below. Students who have earned credit from an AP exam should not take a comparable college course because transfer credit will not be granted for both. Official College Board transcripts must be submitted to EVC Admissions and Records Office.
GE credits and units granted at EVC may differ from course credit and units granted by the transfer institution. Additionally, transfer institutions may require a score higher than a 3 on an AP exam to meet campus-specific GE or major preparation requirements. Students who have earned AP credit should consult the transfer institution catalog and meet with an EVC counselor to discuss how that credit may be applied at a transfer institution.
