THEAT 003 Intermediate Acting 3 Units

THEAT 020 Introduction to Theatre Arts 3 Units
Students study the aesthetics of drama and theatre from their origin through modern theatre practice. Students will examine: plays, playwrights, theatrical design, acting, directing, theatre architecture, the role of the audience, cultural and socio-political effects, production values and dramatic genres. THEAT 025A Theatres of Diversity: Chicanx/Latinx Theatre 3 Units
This is a survey course designed for the general public to study the history and practice of Chicanx/Latinx theatre. Emphasis will be placed on the development of Chicanx and Latinx theatre in the United States. Specific areas of interest will include the Chicanx/Latinx theatre movement in San Jose and California. Students will also participate in the elements of creating and performing Chicanx/Latinx theatre. Field trips may be required.

This is an introductory course in film studies in which students view films and learn to understand the artistic disciplines of film making. THEAT 051 Costume Design 3 Units
This course introduces students to stage costume design. Students will create and construct costumes appropriate to a wide range of stage productions. This course covers costume history and research, design principles, costuming materials and equipment, and basic construction techniques. Students may be required to attend a play.

THEAT 052 Stage Makeup 3 Units
Students will be introduced to basic techniques of designing and applying stage makeup. Makeup techniques covered in this course will include: contouring the face with highlights and shadows, applying bases, eye makeup, special effects makeup, hair and wig dressing. Makeup and hair design for modern and period plays will be surveyed. Students may be required to attend a play.

THEAT 053 Introduction to Stage Lighting 3 Units
Students are introduced to basic theories and methods of stage lighting for all production types. Students examine stage lighting optics, instrument selection and rigging, color theory, basic electricity, circuiting and control systems, and lighting design principles. The course emphasizes technical lighting facts, aesthetics, and design concept development. Students may be required to attend a play.

THEAT 060 Script Analysis 3 Units
Students develop methodology for reading, analyzing, and understanding play scripts intended for production in a variety of genres and styles. Students use investigative techniques to read a play for its structure, plot, character and imagery, identifying how dramatic texts are distinct from other forms of literature.
