Law, Public Policy and Society - Associate in Arts for Transfer
The Associate in Arts in Law, Public Policy, and Society for Transfer Degree "LPPS" prepares students for legal, government, corporate, non-profit, or educational fields. The interdisciplinary coursework emphasizes the development of communication skills, critical thinking skills, and focuses on the law, public policy, and social justice. Students study a variety of disciplines, including Political Science, Law, Criminal Justice/Criminology, Behavioral and Social Science, Economics, and Communications. Students who choose this course of study are encouraged to explore one or more focus majors as they select electives and areas of emphasis for degree completion.
To be awarded the Associate in Arts in Law, Public Policy, and Society for Transfer Degree, students must:
(1) Complete 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to California State University, including both of the following:
(A) The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC).
(B) A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
(2) Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
While a minimum of 2.0 is required for admission, some majors may require a higher GPA. Please consult with a counselor for more information.
Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) require that the student earn a “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.

- Interpret and analyze concepts and theories of law, public policy, and social justice from multiple perspectives.
- Apply and explain terminology and practices that relate to the law, public policy, and social justice from local, state, national, and/or international perspectives.
- Assess how equity, accountability, and social justice relate to the law, public policy, and society.
- Analyze decisions and ideas related to the law, public policy, and social justice from the perspective of ethics, civic responsibility, and public perception.
